Life Lately | May 2, 2020

Last fall, I temporarily moved into a role at work that had me spending my 40 hours a week writing. A couple people asked me then if it would make me less likely to write outside of work, and I wasn't sure, but ultimately it didn't. Now, if you had asked me if a global pandemic that keeps me locked inside my house for two months would affect my writing, I'd have laughed. Because obviously with all that time in the house, of course I'd write all the time.

Lol, nope. What do I even have to write about? Oh, today I painted my nails and let Duke watch two hours of PJ Mask so I could work, and then after dinner, I promptly fell asleep on the couch.

Riveting.

It's been a lot of Friday night bonfires. Duke thinks it's a real treat to roast a hotdog for dinner and a marshmallow for dessert. I have a stack of sparklers I bought when I was an ambitious new mom that Duke is just now getting very interested in. Most of them are duds after three years, but the controlled playing with fire is a good enough rush that he enjoys it nonetheless.

I'm still rather enjoying working from home. The quality of life is a pleasant change from rushing around all the time and it's definitely made me think about how I'd prefer to envision my future. It's taken a few weeks, but I've hammered out a nice routine and a good spot to settle in for the day. I'm looking forward to spring and warm enough weather to open up my windows and maybe setting up my office outside on the deck.

I'm not reading as much as I'd like and I can't really pinpoint why. I only read two books last month, and one was an old favorite that I picked up to motivate myself. We have had a couple of days warm enough to sit out on the front porch while Duke plays, and that's been helpful. And frankly, just nice.

I've been feeling a bit morose this week. I don't really have a reason to, but whatever. Feelings are feelings. I'm hopeful that a Saturday with pleasant weather will be just the non-pharmaceutical fix I need.

Happy weekending!
