Life Lately | April

You guys - happy May! I've been literally writing this post since April 15, but who cares! It was mostly  a good month. Even in the wild up north, we've had a few nice days and at least one day was so downright humid, I ran out the door in my regular old winter coat and shed it before I hit my car. I considered running back inside to swap my shoes for flip-flops. We had a weekend (a weekend - hallelujah!) of surprise 75º and I packed up Duke and headed straight to the beach.

In other news, summer looms delightfully and I just bought tickets for a Sheryl Crow concert at the Cherry Fest which I am V excited about. Is there anything more summery than Sheryl Crow? She makes me want to roll my windows down and hang my arm out while driving one handed, hair blowing around all kinds of crazy. I'm already dreaming about swaying, beer in hand, at that concert. I read somewhere that anticipation and looking forward to something is roughly half the joy and I 👏 am 👏 enjoying.

We had lots of family visit in April, which feels very summer-like. Some beach trips, some backpack seltzies, some bonfires. Good things are happening. Good summer feeling things.

Let's see. A couple weeks ago, I went to my very first Kindergarten Round Up and got Duke signed up for kindergarten next year. KRU sounds so official but really I just filled out piles of paperwork while he got to ride a school bus. When it was all over, they gave him a cookie. He's very excited to be a kindergartener on the basis alone that he might get to ride a school bus and also he thinks kindergartners get cookies at school now.

Besides all that, I have a job that becomes consuming in the spring and I am officially consumed, so even though we're officially over the finish line, it somehow feels like April was five minutes and five months. Time is weird!

We had Easter of course, and this year we stayed home and got lucky with a sunny day. This Easter bunny was running around the yard in a bathrobe at 5am with fingers crossed that George wouldn't spot me from the bedroom window and start barking his head off. He didn't and all was well.

One weekend, my sister and I made a special point of rounding up the kids and taking them to McDonalds for lunch. Anyone else remember fast-food being a huge big deal? It was such a treat when I was kid and I loved how much our kids were into it. They sat at a table by themselves behind the grown-ups and just had a regular old blast.

Getting outside and getting out all the toys. Ryan's been working on our boat lately and shopping for a pontoon, which I highly highly support. I am just giddy that it's almost drop the boat in the water season.

Lots of time with these turkeys. My sister and I live a good 2.5 hours apart, but we've been really good about getting together once a month or so and it's just so nice to see our kids growing up together. They play hard and have a blast and then Duke sleeps all the way home. Wins for everyone.
