So. A couple days ago, I'm at Target, buying sparklers that I would say are in preparation for July, but I mean every weekend is a celebration, so we'll see how long they last in the drawer. Anyway, I guess you have to be 18 to buy a firework that we let a 4-year old run around with barely supervised, but that's beside the point. The cashier asked for my birthday and then commented "I swear, everyone I ask today has been 1988!" I laughed and said "all those millennial moms you know, just getting ready for summer, I guess!"

Then this is how I know she asked for my birthday only because she had to - she said, "my mom loves this one song because it says 'bring back '88'. It's called Fancy, by Iggy." Then she paused uncomfortably like she suddenly felt bad. "Do you know... have you ever heard of Iggy?"

That song is 10 years old. Yes, I know Iggy.

You guys, apparently 33 has been a rough year for me and my collagen. I try to take care of myself, but in the last couple months, two cashiers have cheerfully reminded me that it ain't workin'.  I have no illusions of grandeur, but dang! Haha.

Anyway! On to happier things, sweet summertime things, like pizza al fresco at Iron Fish.

1 // Sparking Joy

Graduation | Oh you guys, my baby boy graduated from preschool and they put him in a cap and gown and played Pomp and Circumstance when his class came marching out in a not single-file line on the last day of school. I think it's actually absurd, but that doesn't inhibit me from cooing with all the other parents. It's cute. I'm proud of him. He's proud of himself. It was a good day!

Good quality products | Listen, I know I'm late to this conclusion, but I'm really learning to value make-up and skincare that costs a little more but does what it says it will. I've been a longtime drugstore shopper and I'm not knocking it, but NARS just does the job that ELF can never do. I bought this concealer and this setting powder in the last month or so and man, it's pricy but it is game changer in results. Still not fooling the cashiers at Target though. 😂

The 3-2-1 Margarita Recipe | Simple, easy to remember, and churns out some gooooood margaritas. It's 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, 1 part lime juice. Sometimes I pour in a can of lime sparkling water if I want to dilute it a touch. Pour and drink. Happy summer!

2 // Shopping

I placed a nice book order with Bluevase Books last week in preparation for my summer reading list. I am especially looking forward to reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, House of Gucci, and The Lincoln Highway. What's on your summer reading list?

Related: I so highly recommend Bluevase Books in Interlochen if you're local. Their website sucks, but if you're in the mood for an in-person treasure hunt, they have so many great books for a real bargain.

Love this striped set from J.Crew Factory.

I have bought so much stuff from 32 Degrees lately. Super comfortable, and the prices are weird cheap. Like, I don't understand. I wore the heck out of this skirt this week.

I scooped up a couple things for the deck this week. Not patiently waiting for this hanging chair and (!!!) projector to show up. I bought another string of twinkle lights and I'll just be out here until it starts snowing again.

I'm reading about the Vanderbilts right now and man are they a fascinating bunch. Did you know that 70% of family wealth is lost in 2-generations, and 90% within 3? One person to build it all and all their kids with no sense of the value of money to just totally blow it. Anyway, I'd love to visit The Breakers, their gilded-age family "cottage" in Newport that is just knock-your-socks-off stunning.

Love a good homemade pizza.

Practical

A summer bucket list. I'm still working on mine, but outright stealing directly from this list.

So many bougie sounding ingredients, but like, I'm willing to try it.

I lucked out but dang, these first date nightmares made me laugh so hard

I am woefully casual about budgeting, but maybe an app could help

5 // Consuming

Reading: News of the World by Paulette Jiles. Great reviews on GoodReads and a National Book Award, so I'm hedging my bets that it's going to be a good one. I'm only two chapters in right now, but you know I'll report back.

Edit: because it took me a while to complete this post and I finished News of the World last night. It's good. Took me a second to get into it, and the writer is apparently above using quotation marks which bugs me, but the story is good and bittersweet.

Listening to: Hmph. Not much. My go-to Armchair Expert hasn't had anyone I'm interested in for some time, so I'm catching up on my old standby, My Favorite Murder. Anyone have good podcast recs? I've got a 2hr drive in front of me this morning, so expeditious recommendations are ideal.

Watching: Pretty much just Action Pack as I walk through the living room because that's Duke's favorite show right now and I'm spending all my free time out on the deck with a book. I always feel bad for how much TV I watch in the winter, but then summer comes around and I'm almost entirely off of it - seasons, you know? Life and weather.

6 // Plans

It's our annual "Daughters and Duke" weekend with Ryan's side of the family. His sister has a little piece of property that's equidistant for most of us, so we meet up every summer for a camping weekend. Just the girls + Duke. I've been packing and planning for that all week and this morning we'll wander out that way.

Edited with this picture because, as usual, it takes me four months to complete one post so by the time I hit "publish" the aforementioned camping trip has come and gone.

Instead our actual weekend plans are hanging out with my very best friends and their kids who all thankfully get along (still hoping they become best friends). They're all camping about 10 minutes from my house, so I'll just be moving in and bring my sparklers with me.

Cheers! Happy Weekending!
