Life Lately | October
Okay, so October is the month that I finally accept it is fall. And then I mostly embrace it because it's not even remotely summer-like and I can just take it for what it is. It's nice really, and this year was probably one of the nicer ones. So many bright blue sky days and mostly warm. I live for being out on my deck, so it was a happy surprise to have that outdoor season extended a few extra weeks. I just put away the deck furniture maybe a week ago, while it was sleeting, so as you can see, I stretched it out as loooong as possible.

And man, what a blast this pocket of the year is with a little kid. He's so into every festive thing, so we mostly bopped from pumpkin patch to apple orchard for the whole dang month.
Okay. I'm just going to air this dirty laundry even though I know it makes me sound crazy. The other day, I ventured to think about holidays of the future, when Duke isn't little and it made me sad. Like emotional. What is Halloween if I don't have an excited kiddo to trick or treat through a neighborhood?! On Christmas, do we just...sleep in? I know that I'm living the best years of my life right now and the way it cannot be grasped and held onto gives me such wistful feelings.
My method for dealing with difficult things is to think about something else, so moving ON!

My good friend is getting married in a few months and we celebrated her bachelorette party on Mackinaw Island. It happened to be the last weekend AND halloween on the island, which felt like a wonderful coincidence.
We were treated to beautiful weather and a double rainbow - at which point I stood out on the balcony to check it out and saw my former boss, who I'd definitely consider a friend (!), wander by in her Mickey Mouse ears. What a happy surprise! Besides Christmas cards and Instagram, I haven't seen her in probably 8 years.

Halloween was extra deluxe this year - it fell on a Sunday, so naturally some places moved trick-or-treating to Saturday and we dipped into both days.
Duke's costume is obvious - he picked it out a good two months ago during a Costco trip with Ryan's mom. Honestly, I thought it was a risk. This turkey usually changes his mind a good 15 times between October 1st and the 31st, but he stuck with Captain America the whole dang time.
I went to his class party the Thursday before Halloween, which made me feel like such a mom (it's weird to be the mom in the situation when it all feels so familiar, but the last time you were in that situation, you were the kid). Anyway, lots of superheroes at school.
My costume was a lot more last minute. Ryan's sister invited me to a party and I decided to go the morning of. A quick google search and some hot glue later, I was a shot of tequila. I'm telling you because I know this is perhaps not obvious. Sarah was very elaborate raven. Also perhaps not obvious.

Other nice things that happened this month -
Still made my way to the beach.
This is probably the first weekend in October? Maybe the second. I wore shorts that day and a backpack with some seltzers. That's my perfect evening. If I'm ever dying, with the knowledge that it's my last day, and the stamina to go somewhere, that's just what I'll do. Sunset at the beach with a backpack filled with booze.
Don't care about my last meal. Just get me to the beach.
