Hey guys! I hope you're right at the very beginning of a nice long summer weekend. If you ask me - and please do - this is the best week of the whole year. I used to take this week off and would have been on vacation anyway if I hadn't quit my job recently (maybe that's why it still doesn't feel real?). Anyway, I've been feverishly trying to cram in everything I love about a northern Michigan summer before we leave, so if you need me, I'll be at the beach or grabbing ice cream from Moomers

In case you missed it, here's what I've been writing about lately -

Way back in March, pre-coronavirus (sort of), I was in San Francisco for three days, eating my way around town.

What I read in June. Spoiler: it's a short list.

The soundtrack to summer 2020. You know how you hear a song and it brings you right back to senior prom (Usher, Yeah - every time) or the first time you drove a car yourself, or whatever. I can't wait for these songs to sound like a road trip.

Totally unnecessary, but that doesn't stop me from putting these on my wishlist. Saving them for later!

Timely and fascinating: Diner Culture and Road Tripping

Spoiler alert: this house burned to the ground, but before that, the renovation was dreamy.

Free to dream, I guess.

I'll be giving this DIY Sew Free Masks pattern a try.

Just for fun: I'm donuts and coffee and I couldn't agree more.

Targeted marketing - road trip podcasts. Or just totally binge-worthy. You do you.

5 || READING

I'm about a quarter through The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. I read it probably a decade ago and while I remember that I really liked it, I can't remember the details so it's delightfully like reading it for the first time, yet knowing I'll be satisfied. It's a fictionalized account of a Columbine teacher, so the subject matter is rough, but I'm hooked. It's also some of Wally Lamb's best writing IMHO. For me, he can be a little hit or miss, but when he's on, he's on. This one, I Know This Much is True, and Wishin' and Hopin' are books that I keep to read again.

6 || HAPPY THOUGHTS

Okay FAIR question:

Why do we only rest in peace? Why don't live in peace too?

7 || PLANS

Pretty much packing and getting the eff outta dodge. Seriously though, I think I'm going to write up a quick post about what our plans are because basically I've told a handful of people in real life and that's it. If we haven't run into each other, you probably only know vaguely that we're taking a vacation, so I'll get more detailed sometime this weekend.

And it's the 4th (which I forgot since everything is cancelled and I don't have a job to remind me of the calendar), so it's the perfect last weekend to be in Michigan for a while. I'm going wring the heck out of everything good. Which will be perfect because then I'll sleep straight through to Nebraska and if you've never been on the Interstate 80, trust me, there's not one single interesting thing to see for a realllllly long time. Except this -- we're definitely stopping here.

In ending, please enjoy this hilariously bad advice I drove by on M37 somewhere between Mesick and Grand Rapids. Oh and to be clear, they're selling fireworks, which decidedly do not go that well with "hold my beer" -

Made me laugh though.

Happy Friday friends! May we all keep our digits this holiday weekend.
