Hey guys! Friday already? The weeks sure do fly by when you're unemployed.

Speaking of things that blitzed, here comes Labor Day and the end of summer. I mean, it's not really, but in the imaginary land of arbitrary cut-offs, that summer sun is about to set for 2020. I wonder what makes us love bookending summer like this. You know, with an unofficial start on Memorial Day and an unofficial end on Labor Day? I guess there's something about a firm beginning and end. We're a culture that likes closure, you know? Obviously summer has actual start and end dates, but who gives a shit about those?

On the bright side, Labor Day Monday is one of the rare treasures of the year. I always wander around downtown Frankfort on Labor Day (it usually rains, like even the weather is in on it) and after a busy summer and an even busier holiday weekend, it just feels good and weird to see empty streets. September is local's summer and I feel like it treats us with what I wish the entire year was like. A couple of pockets of good summer heat, final boat days, and smelling like coconut sunscreen. And days tucked in between that meet a high of 60º, perfect for bonfires and pulling on the hoodies we shoved to the back of our closets. By the end of the month, I'm reaching for hoodies more than the sunscreen, but the transition has been slow and indulgent and I'm not mad about it.

Also, more vapidly, September presents jeans with strappy heals season. A very short season, indeed.

In case you don't check my blog daily like my grandmother, here's what I've been posting lately:

The final postcard of the first leg of our trip went live this week. If you want to see the rest of our postcards, they're all right here

Everything I read in August. And if you're interested, the running list of everything I've read this year. My goal is 52 books in 52 weeks.

Back to school is well behind me (and on the kiddo front, still in front of me), but I still use it as an excuse to get a few new things. I have those Lucky ankle boots and let me tell you, they are four seasons.

The Babysitters Club is back in business? I'm into it.

Currently Listening to The Aces | biblio-style.com

Listening to: The Aces. I like 801

Reading: Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.

Watching: Gossip Girl on Netflix. I read all the books in high school, but never watched the series. I'm into it, if only for the early aughts playlist. Nelly Furtado? Girl where'd you go?

6 || PLANS

This is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. Ryan's birthday was on Tuesday, we've got Labor Day coming up, September is my favorite month, and Duke's birthday is just a week down the road. We had family visiting this week and our friends from Chicago are arriving later today. What a great line up of things to enjoy and look forward to!

With his "bortday" on the immediate agenda, Duke's favorite activity is looking at birthday cakes. We're currently in between themes, so maybe it'll be a PJ Mask cake? Or perhaps a garbage truck one? The carwash cake is also a strong contender.  It all depends on his mood, so it'll come down to the day before. As usual.

You guys, happy Labor Day. If we're going to call it the last weekend of summer, at least it's a long one. Cheers!
